The elephant is the world's biggest land animal. Mother elephants bring up their newborn elephant by giving the newborn their milk. Mother elephants give birth to only one baby elephant in one time. The elephant is a short sleeper by any standard, requiring only 3 - 4 hours daily from 11.00 p.m. - 3.00 a.m. the next morning. The act is accommodated without ceremony by lying itself down on its side and going to sleep, yawning and snoring like humans. Elephants never take a nap by lying at noon with the exception of sickness but they take a nap by standing instead.
