  Age of Elephants  
 
 
 

With not enough evidence and no confirmed documents, it is quoted that an Indian elephant was 120 years of age. In the past, approximately 22.5 % of all elephants were aged over 60-70 years. It was mentioned in the Guinness Book of Record in 1971. It said that Asia elephant is the oldest elephant in the world with evidence and confirmed documents. The oldest elephant is Jessie. It is a female elephant with 69 years of age. She lived in Toronga Zoological Park, Sidney, Australia. In Burma, there was an elephant's dead body with 70 years of age with not enough evidence and no confirmed documents. There was a male elephant named Boonchoo with 83 years of age at the National Elephant Institute, which FIO received from East Asia Teak Concession in the period of concession. Now Boonchoo is dead. Wild elephants usually will die easily in 2 periods of lifetime. There are newborn to 9 years of age period, and the period of 55-70 years of age. Normally the age of wild elephant is longer than domestic elephant' s. Periods of elephant age are divided as follows:

 
     
 

1. Newborn - 35 years is considered as a child elephant.
2. Age 36 - 45 years is considered as full-grown elephant.
3. Age 46 - 50 years is considered as middle age elephant.
4. Age 51 - upper 60 years is considered as aged elephant.

Elephant's Ears observation
1. Newborn - 9 years has no rolled ears.
2. Age 10 - 30 years has rolled ear for approximately 1 inch.
3. Age 30 - 60 years has rolled ear for approximately 1 - 2 inches.
