Good Appearance of the Elephant

    Good elephant must have a big body, big head, full cheeks, wide forehead, clear eyes and strong legs. Elephant's back must be a bit higher in the middle of the back.The tusks must be straight and not twisted.

Types of Elephant

    "Chang Pang" is a female elephant without tusks. there are females with a bit of tusks called "Khanai."
"Chang Plai" is a male elephant with tusks.

Elephant Pregnancy and Giving birth

    Normally, a female elephant or Chang Pang will begin to show readiness to mate (or Oestrous cycle) when it is approximately 15 – 16 years old. ( or the womb is ready to be pregnant ) This will last until age of 50 – 55 years. A male elephant will begin to show readiness to mate (or Oestrous cycle) approximately age 12 years or over.
