  Pang La Elephant Nursery Center

Baan Pang La Elephant Nursery Center is located at Pang Lah Village, Ngao District in Lampang Province. It used to be a training center for young elephants; it has since become a retirement center for 29 elephants under the care of the FIO. These elephants are all sick, old or crippled, and cannot walk or cannot work hard. Some are so dangerous that their owners cannot keep them, so the elephants are sent here. Confiscated elephants are still brought here as well. All these animals are cared for, by mahouts and veterinarians from the Institute. The expenses of caring for these elephants are covered by the government and by private donations.
